Having been left on the bench in the midweek loss to Queens Park Rangers, the Slovenia striker wasted no time in showing Sheehan his goal scoring prowess, finding the top corner of the Canaries goal inside six minutes with a rasping effort from the edge of the box.
Norwich came back into the game when forward Jovo Makama equalised just before the break, forcing the ball over the goal line from striker partner Josh Sargent’s cut-back.
In a second half of few clear-cut chances, it took a special strike from Vipotnik to seal victory as his fierce long-range shot earned Swansea their first win at home in five Championship games.
For a Sheehan it was the clinical finishing of Vipotnik that was the most pleasing part with the striker moving to eight for the season.
“Yes, an important win, I think every win is important. In terms of the first 20-30 minutes, I thought we were front-footed, aggressive in what we wanted to do, scored a great goal and had numerous opportunities to put the game to bed and we didn’t.
“Then they had a moment where we didn’t protect the middle of the pitch well enough, Sargent on the shoulder – which he’s been doing for a number of years – and then they get that goal at the end of it.
“Then at half-time they change formation, so we tried to counteract that and get pressure on the ball. But they bring a lot of players to the build-up really, so sometimes it’s hard to get that pressure on the ball.
“But I don’t really remember them having any opportunities in the second half or Vigs [Lawrence Vigouroux] having a huge amount to do.
“But ultimately you get out what you put in and… today we went and we got the win, and I think we really deserved that.
“He [Vipotnik] was exceptional, they’re high-level goals, and you’ve seen a player that’s really enjoying his football,” said the Swans boss in his post-match conference
“He was a livewire, led the line. There are things that we want more of and for him to be relentless within that, but in terms of scoring goals, he gave two moments of real quality and added that clinical edge we have been missing in certain games.”
