The Swans picked up their first league victory of the season in impressive fashion with a display full of energy, purpose and desire against last season’s losing play-off finalists.
Sheehan’s side would be deserved winners with Ronald’s second half strike sealing the match midway through the half but should have won by a much more hansome margin after a dominant performance.
The Brazilian winger also missed a guilt-edged chance, whilst Josh Tymon and new signings Malick Yalcouye and Melker Widell saw efforts flash past visiting goalkeeper Michael Cooper’s post.
Overall, Sheehan would have no complaints with the result and a clean sheet to boot, to extend his impressive home record in charge since taking over to six wins from eight matches, with just one defeat.
“I am really pleased,” Sheehan said in his post-match conference.
“I think the only critical thing you can say is that again is we’re not more clinical in putting the game to bed.
“This is a team that was one game away from being in the Premier League, the stature of the club is big, to go toe-to-toe with them and come out on top deservedly is great.
“The only thing I can be critical of is that we didn’t have a few more. To limit a team like that, with the quality they have, to zero shots on target shows a good defensive structure.”
Sheehan confirmed that Nottingham Forest’s New Zealand international midfielder Marko Stamenic was in the stands ahead of completing a permanent switch to the club.
Stamenic will become the Swans ninth signing of the summer, with Sheehan hopeful of adding a forward and a left sided defender playing in as well before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month.
“We need a couple more [signings] in, everybody knows that, continued Sheehan.
“Marko will be in, he’s a player we’ve been after for a while. He’ll bring some physicality, athleticism, and he’s another international coming into the building.
“He showed a real willingness, and he’s a real good character, which is so important because we want to bring in players and we sometimes want them in sooner.
“But getting the right people for what we’re trying to do was so important for the football club. We can’t just sign anybody. It’s got to be the right ones that fit into our group and how we want to play.
“Hopefully we can continue to get a few little bits done.”
