A public consultation is seeking thoughts on the future use of the area which has, in past years, been home to tennis courts.
Some people may wish for the courts – on land between the Oyster House Hotel and Oystermouth Bowls Club – to remain.
However, earlier consultation as part of the village’s sea defences scheme, highlighted that others have further ideas that they feel may offer greater benefit to Mumbles.
The new survey – by landowners Swansea Council – will seek to understand how Mumbles residents, businesses, organisations and visitors would most like to see the land used in the years to come.
These thoughts will be used to shape any future investment at the site. The bowling green would be untouched.
The tennis courts are currently home to a temporary compound for construction teams working on the Mumbles coastal protection project which is scheduled for completion in the first half of this year.
Robert Francis-Davies, council cabinet member for investment, regeneration, events and tourism said:
“This year, once the sea defences scheme is complete and the prom is greener, more accessible and more attractive, the courts are due to be returned to us.
“Due to recent public engagement about the sea defences, we’re aware of a variety of opinions as to how the courts’ location could best serve the community, local residents and visitors in the years to come.
“No decision will be made on the location’s future until the views of Mumbles residents, businesses, organisations and visitors have been taken into account.”
Andrew Stevens, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure said:
“This consultation is an opportunity for people and organisations to have their say on how they think this space would best serve the community in future.
“It’s important to ensure that community aspirations for the site are gathered to inform the next steps. Once we’ve taken all responses into account we plan to publish an initial plan for the location – for further public discussion.
“I encourage anybody with an interest in this site to have their say by taking part in the consultation.”
Any future development will be subject to funding and planning permission.
