Williams happy with Peart-Harris impact as Swans beat Hornets

Peart-Harris’ first-half close-range finish gave Williams’ side a thoroughly deserved three points in an entertaining display in south Wales as the Swans move up to 10th place in the EFL Championship standings.

Back-to-back victories for only the second time this season, and a first home win since the middle of September have been encouraging for the Londoner whose side now lie just two points outside of the play-off placings.

While the Swans remain the lowest scorers having previously gone five games without a goal in the Championship, after successive wins, Williams says his side are showing signs of progress.

“I am pleased that we played well again. I think it’s fair for me to say that the players deserved to win,” said the Swans boss after the victory.

“I think in the first hour, they were the only team that looked like they were going to go and win the game.

“In the last half hour Watford applied a lot more pressure to us and we coped with that pretty well, so I am pleased.

“The players carried on from the previous performance. Really I think we have been close to that type of performance – I don’t think it was that different to Millwall – but it feels different if you don’t win.”

Williams was pleased with the performance from the 22-year-old Brentford loanee Peart-Harris, who also hit the post in the first half before scoring his first goal for the club.

“He’s a young player who has had to adapt. Now he’s doing more than adapting, he’s looking very comfortable,” added Williams.

“Before with some opportunities, he perhaps lacked some self-belief that he would score. He ended up in the goal with the ball tonight and I love that.

“I feel like we’re becoming a team with an identity and we’re going in the right direction. Maybe we could have had a few more points, but we should be happy we are now two points off the play-offs.

“We have to maintain this now and we can look forward to a good season.”
