New app leads explorers on a trail around improved Llyn Llech Owain Country Park
A new augmented reality explorer trail has been launched for families to enjoy a new experience at Carmarthenshire’s Llyn Llech Owain Country Park.
The trail forms part of a series of improvements at the park including visitor and education centres, a revamped early years children’s playground, landscaping and upgraded footpaths, and a Wellbeing Work-hub for people to work and hold meetings in its peaceful surroundings.
Families can now download a new ‘Explorer Trail LLO’ app on their smartphone and use it to follow a trail around the park listening to stories about the area’s history and the exciting things that can be found there.
Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “Llyn Llech Owain Country Park is a beautiful place for families to enjoy, and we’re pleased to be investing in facilities for everyone to enjoy. As well as the new explorer trail and other physical improvements, we have created a Wellbeing Work-hub to give people a unique and peaceful place to work and meet which forms part of our economic recovery plan as we emerge from the pandemic.”
Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, Cabinet Member for culture, sport and tourism, added: “Llyn Llech Owain is one of Carmarthenshire’s three beautiful country parks, and offers tranquil surroundings where families can get some fresh air and connect with nature. We’re excited to be bringing new developments to the park to give families something different to do as they enjoy their time together outdoors.
“Not only do the improvements enhance the area, they open up more opportunities for the park.”
Carmarthenshire County Council secured funding of £185,000 for the improvements through the Welsh Government’s Valleys Regional Park scheme.
The park became one of 12 sites across Wales to be awarded VRP Discovery Gateway status last year.
Phil Lewis, Valleys Regional Park Programme Lead, said: “It is brilliant to have Llyn Llech Owain in our family of Discovery Gateways. The diverse landscapes, existing and new facilities funded by VRP provide an ideal showcase of the Valleys, for our communities and visitors.”
