Major incident declared after suspected gas explosion in Morriston
A major incident has been declared after a suspected gas explosion at a property in Morriston.

Residents reported hearing a “horendous” bang around 11.20am in what is suspected to be a gas explosion.
Images from the scene show a house completely destroyed in the blast.
Emergency services are at the incident at the junction of Field Close and Clydach Road in Morriston with Police advising people to avoid the area while they investigate.
In a statement, a spokesperson from South Wales Police said: “Emergency services are continuing to work at the scene of an explosion on Clydach Road in Morriston that occurred around 11.20am this morning.
“Three people have been taken to hospital by ambulance. One person is currently unaccounted for, and work is ongoing to locate them.
“Two properties have been extensively damaged and other neighbouring properties have also been damaged.
“A rest centre has been set up by the local authority to support those affected. This is an ongoing incident so more detail will be provided when we have a clearer picture.
“A cordon remains in place and people are asked to avoid the area while the incident is ongoing. Clydach Road remains closed, and traffic is being diverted.
“Our thoughts are with everyone who have been affected by this morning’s incident and we would like to thank the community for their support whilst this incident is ongoing.”
Swansea Council say they also have officers on site assisting emergency services.
Leader of Swansea Council, and Morriston Councillor Rob Stewart said: “My thoughts are with those who have been affected by this incident.
“Council officers joined the emergency services on site as quickly as possible.
“We stand ready to provide any help and support that’s needed for the community, and ask people to stay away from the area while the incident is being dealt with.
“Further updates will be made available as and when there’s more information.”
“My thoughts are with residents at this time.”
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have said they have five fire crews at the scene.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “At 11.20am on Monday, March 13th, crews from Morriston, Swansea West, Neath, Gorseinon and Port Talbot were called to an incident in Morriston following several reports of a gas explosion.
“As well as Fire and Rescue Service Crews, South Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service are in attendance.
“South Wales Police have declared a major incident, no further information is available at this time.”
A spokesperson for Wales & West Utilities said: “We were called to reports of an explosion at a property in the Clydach Road area of Swansea this morning (13 March) and immediately sent a team of engineers.
“On arrival, we found that there had been severe structural damage to the property and the emergency services were in control of the scene. We are now working with them to make the area safe – as we do on all incidents of this nature.
“We do not yet know the cause of the explosion and our engineers will continue to support the emergency services as they carry out their work.”
