Carmarthenshire Council, who are behind the plaque, say it not only honours Bennett’s remarkable sporting achievements but also recognises his profound contributions to the community he called home.

Phil Bennett, hailing from Felinfoel, left an indelible mark on the rugby field, captivating audiences with his skill and passion for the game. Beyond his sporting prowess, Bennett was a beloved figure in the community, known for his generosity and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Funded via the Welsh Government Active Travel Fund with support from Transport for Wales, Carmarthenshire Council say the bridge symbolises more than just a convenient passage – it represents a step forward in creating a broader network of routes linking communities and enhancing accessibility.

The council adds that by offering direct access to the retail hub at Parc Trostre, the bridge further enriches the area’s connectivity and convenience, benefiting residents and visitors alike.

The unveiling of the Phil Bennett Memorial Stone on this bridge marks the third memorial dedicated to him in Llanelli, underscoring the lasting impact of his sporting legacy and his profound contributions to the community.
