Plans for apartments and shipping container commercial unit revealed for Swansea’s Strand

The ‘Urban Corner’ development sees a six-storey apartment building and shipping container commercial unit proposed for Kings Lane, a short pedestrian route that links High Street and Strand in the city centre.

The mixture of 15 one and two bed apartments are described as “affordable” by the housing association in planning documents. The commercial elements will be subject to a Welsh Government “Transforming Towns” funding bid.

A second scheme – Urban Village phase 3 – situated on the other side of Kings Lane is proposed to include further apartments and commercial units as part of a regeneration scheme that Coastal say will make Kings Lane a destination for the area.

The development is the latest phase in the housing association’s regeneration of the area that has seen hundreds of apartments, commercial units and office accommodation built.

It has also seen the regeneration of a number of properties on Swansea’s High Street.

Andrew Parry Jones, Regeneration Manager at Coastal Housing said: “We are pleased to continue with our regeneration of Urban Village. This would be the first in a series of exciting new projects Coastal is looking to deliver in the High Street and Strand area of the city in the next few years.” 

The proposals are still at an early stage of planning. A  pre-planning consultation is currently being held by Asbri Planning on behalf of Coastal Housing Association prior to any formal planning application being submitted.
