Sales of Lidl quiches up 33% as customers take inspiration from official Coronation dish

Sales of the discounter’s premium Deluxe Quiches have climbed by a third (33%) in the past month, as shoppers take inspiration from King Charles and the Queen Consort’s official recipe.

As the big day approaches, British buffet favourites have also seen a boost, with sales of Lidl’s Mini Scotch Eggs and Mini Melton Mowbray Pork Pies seeing a 15% and 10% uplift respectively, month on month.

Meanwhile, shoppers are stocking up on champagne for the celebrations, with sales up by nearly 50% during the same period, as people across the country get ready to raise a glass to the new King.

It’s not just food and drink Brits have been buying in for the big weekend; Lidl sold one of its Coronation mugs every five seconds on the first day of sale, along with enough bunting to line the Coronation procession route 75 times over.

A Lidl GB spokesperson commented: “While it’s clear that Lidl shoppers have already started getting in their celebratory essentials, there’s still ample opportunity for those who have left it until now to get what they need for the weekend’s festivities. From picnic essentials to street party favourites, and premium produce that will add a touch of regal flair to any dinner party, Lidl customers will be able to eat like Kings and Queens, without needing a royal budget.”
