Key back in contention for Swans as Bolasie targets debut in Leeds

Swansea City wing-back Josh Key is set to return to action on Wednesday night at Elland Road as the Swans look to get back to winning ways against Leeds United in the EFL Championship.

The summer signing for Exeter has proven to have been a solid addition to head coach Michael Duff’s starting eleven with his dynamic displays on both flanks. Having been on the sidelines with an ankle injury suffered in the 3-1 defeat to Leicester five and a half weeks ago. Key’s return to fitness will be a massive boost for Duff short on options at the back after several injuries in recent weeks have limited his team selection.

Joining Key in the matchday squad depending on EFL approval of his transfer on Tuesday afternoon will be former Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie. The Congo international has signed until January giving the Swans a differential of a player with skill and pace on the flank sorely lacking since the season-ending injury to Josh Ginnelly.

The Swans were good value at times in their 2-2 draw against Hull on Saturday with first-half goals from Jamie Paterson and Jerry Yates putting the home side in the ascendancy two goals to the good at the break. A sloppy second period defensively, however, would cost them dear as Hull clawed their way back into the game to earn a point.

With games coming thick and fast, the tricky trip to Yorkshire to face promotion-chasing Leeds unbeaten on home soil this campaign will be a difficult challenge for the Swans, but one which Key is relishing on his return.

“It’s a great place to go and play football. These are the sort of challenges you have to look forward to, we know we have to perform to give ourselves the best chance of a result,” explained Key.

“They are a strong team, but you have to have the mindset of wanting to go and enjoy it and give it your best shot.”

Bolasie, meanwhile, a player with over 100 Championship appearances to his name with various clubs feels his versatility of being able to play across the forward line and experience can help the Swans going forward through the campaign.

“I’d like to think I can add something to the group on and off the pitch,” said Bolasie after completing his medical at the club’s Fairwood base.

“I’ve played in different countries and different leagues, and I am here to help the team and play to the best of my ability.

“I would like to think I will bring something on the pitch with the way I play.

“I’ve got a wealth of experience now; I’ve adapted to play those types of roles and I’d like to think I can come and do that here.

“I think that might be one of the reasons the club brought me here, because I can play all three positions.”

“Over the years I’ve always played in different positions, as a number nine, a seven or 11, and sometimes even behind the striker.

“I’m going to go game by game. I’d like to think I can come in flying, but at the same time I need a bit of match fitness.”
