Concentration the key for Williams as Swans look to bounce back at Hull

Swansea City head coach Luke Williams believes that concentration will be key from his side ahead of the trip to the MKM Stadium to face sixth-placed Hull City tomorrow afternoon.

The Swans travel to Humberside still looking for their first win under Williams after picking up just a solitary point from the Londoner’s first four matches in charge.

Last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Plymouth at the Swansea.com Stadium showed promise. The Swans would be much improved, with Williams commenting after the match that he felt his side should have won with the number of chances they created.

The result left the Swans perilously close to the relegation zone and just five points ahead of Queens Park Rangers who currently sit in 22nd place.

It would be though a third loss on the bounce and a third game in a row where Williams’ side’s challenge has been made that much harder by conceding within the opening period of the match.

The Swans boss looking to guide his team to their first away win since the beginning of December, expects play-off chasing Hull to provide a stern test, but one that can be overcome by being more switched on at either end of the pitch.

“They are a very good team, so we are going to have to make it difficult for them to play and then impose our game plan on them,” said Williams.

“We have to go there believing in ourselves. The players have the belief they can go there and perform well. We are not going there beaten before we travel, I can tell you that.

“We certainly want to be on the front-foot, we don’t want to sit off and let them have territory on the pitch and huge spells of possession.

“We also have to concentrate and focus all the time because we have given up goals we did not need to.

“We have concentrated in training to really focus on being that much sharper, reading the actions better and being more organised. Certainly, we need to do that again on the weekend.

“We have to be focused throughout the game and convert our chances. The more we work on the training pitch the more chance we have of making those things a reality the more chance we have [of winning].

“I don’t think the goals have come from the same problem but certainly it’s a bad idea to lose concentration at any point in the game, particularly in the beginning.

“We have a game plan that we have worked on today. We are expecting a tough game, but we believe in ourselves and will try to win the game and be competitive.”

The Swans will still be without a host of players for tomorrow’s game, but Williams revealed new signings Przemysław Płacheta and Charles Sagoe Jnr will be fit to start if selected.

“Harry was on the grass today, but we need to see how he reacts to that before we build up his workload,” continued Williams.

“We are all on track in terms of what we expected for Josh Key, but he’s not back training at the minute.

“The new guys have been encouraging, we are seeing their level improve.

“Charles Jr and Przemysław are ready to start if needed. They have been building their fitness, but those guys are ready.

“Harrison Ashby is still not right so there’s work to do on that one, Azeem [Abdulai] is in the gym and doing very well and recovering well, while Sam Parke is going to be a longer-term one.

“Liam [Walsh] is still battling away, he’s not there yet and is not out on the grass. He has had so many setbacks, but his mentality is good.
