Williams looking for more control in games after Swans draw with Watford
Swansea City head coach Luke Williams was slightly frustrated but satisfied with a point on the road after his side drew 1-1 in the EFL Championship against Watford at Vicarage Road last night.
The Swans would be the better of the two sides in the first 45, taking the lead through a hapless own goal midway through the half. Matt Grimes’ searching cross headed past goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann by defender Ryan Andrews after miscommunication in the Watford penalty area.
Williams’ side could not, however, turn their domination into goals. Ronald would miss a guilt-edged chance, whilst Ben Cabango would draw a splendid out of Bachmann as just a solitary goal would be the difference at the interval.
Watford improved in the second-half and would punish a lapse of concentration in the Swans backline from a set-piece scenario to gain a deserved equaliser.
Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt taking the plaudits for the home side, flicking a header home from close-range corner in at the near post with the Swans defense static.
The Swans would rally and would defend resolutely. Cabango and Nathan Wood both putting their bodies on the line to block several late Watford efforts as both sides went in search of a winner.
The scores though were to remain level with a point a piece a satisfactory result for the Swans boss.
“We were quite dominant in the first-half. We managed to control that well, but we need to take chances,” said Williams.
“We could have increased our lead and then the second-half is a different game.
“We didn’t quite get that done and the opposition regrouped at half-time and were much more attacking and we paid for that.
“We lost control with the ball, and this translated into more counter attacks, more chaos and it is not so comfortable for us.
“There is no place in the team for players who won’t sacrifice their own bodies and the fans see that [they are putting them on the line] and are hopefully proud of the players.
“The two centre halves [Cabango and Wood] were like a two-man army. They were incredible at times.
“There is some frustration, but I am happy enough [with a point].”
