Adam Idah’s equaliser secured a share of the spoils after Charlie Kelman had opened the scoring in the opening seconds of the second half.
After volleying one effort narrowly over, Idah was given time to turn 20 yards from goal and took full advantage, arrowing a low shot into the net via the base of the post.
Sheehan’s side had more control than their hosts and missed a golden chance to win it when Josh Key shot over in added time.
The draw extends Charlton’s unbeaten run to four games and means they have now lost only once in their past 23 home fixtures in all competitions.
Nathan Jones’ team drop to eighth in the table, while Swansea are down to 16th, leaving Sheehan frustrated his side did not pick up the victory.
“I’m really disappointed to come away with just a point,” said the Swans boss after the final whistle.
“In terms of performance, against a team who are difficult to play against, we managed to cope really well for large parts of the game.
“They are man to man all over the pitch, so you have to wear them down. We made a few little tactical tweaks and took control.
“We pinned them in in the second half and had opportunities. The guys were excellent in terms of effort and application.
“We just missed that killer ball or killer finish, that final action.
“There are a lot of positives to take. We dealt with the direct play and played some good football. I was waiting for the net to ripple on a number of occasions but we just couldn’t get that second goal.
“They are very strong at home, and this is a difficult place to come.
“We had Man City on Wednesday night, so it was a quick recovery. It was never going to be an easy game. Our game plan worked. We looked like the team that was going to get a second or third goal.”
The Swans face a worrying wait to see the severity of injury to star striker Zan Vipotnik who was unavailable for the match against the Addicks after the Slovenian international pulled up in training with a quad problem.
Sheehan now is eagerly waiting to hear news of the severity of the injury from a scan on Monday ahead of matches with Preston in midweek and Ipswich at the Swansea.com Stadium next weekend.
“Vipi [Vipotnik] felt something in his quad, so we are going to get that looked at,” explained Sheehan.
“We didn’t want to risk it – we don’t know how serious it is. We are going to have to get a scan and see where it is.
“Zan wasn’t available today, but Adam [Idah] came in and scored. He was a real handful.
“I think he led the line well. He has a different profile to Vipi so we have to change different things with him in the team. But he got a goal, and, on another day, he could have had two or three.”
