Idah’s 20-yard individual effort midway through the second period canceled out Charlie Kelman’s first goal for Nathan Jones’ play-off chasing outfit in an entertaining contest that could have gone either way.
Republic of Ireland international Idah was given time to turn to take full advantage, arrowing a low shot into the net via the base of the post.
The Swans had handed a first Championship start to Kaelan Casey while Lawrence Vigouroux, Ben Cabango, Jisung Eom, and Ronald came back into the team from the midweek cup defeat to Manchester City.
Alan Sheehan’s side, however, were dealt a blow before the match started with top scorer Zan Vipotnik missing out from the starting X1 due to a quad injury, allowing £6 million signing from Celtic, Idah to continue to lead the line.
After a scrappy first 45, Charlton centre half Macaulay Gillesphey would come closest to breaking the deadlock from a set-piece, heading powerfully towards goal but finding Swansea’s Vigouroux in fine form to save his effort.
For the Swans, the impressive Eom lashed wide of the near post, which would be the closest the away side would come, having been restricted to shots from distance that failed to trouble home keeper Thomas Kaminski.
It would be the home side that would take the lead immediately from the restart, with Kelman steering in from close range via the underside of the bar after the Swans would fail to deal with Conor Coventry’s hopeful ball into the box in the opening seconds of the second half.
The Swans would edge the possession statistics, and having come close with a volley minutes earlier, Idah would get his side’s goal with an equaliser of pure quality. His second goal for his new club, and his first from open play, powering a low shot into the net via the base of the post.
Swansea nearly took the lead 10 minutes later, with on-loan West Ham defender Casey arriving late to meet a corner, but Kaminski would be the hero, parrying to safety.
The away side then pushed for a winner but spurned their best chance in stoppage time after a bobbling ball fell for full back Josh Key, but the former Exeter man’s left-footed effort would be off target, clearing the bar to leave the two sides with a share of the points.
The draw extends Charlton’s unbeaten run to four games and means they have now lost only once in their past 23 home fixtures in all competitions as they drop out of the play-off zone, whilst Swansea remain in 16th place.
