The first estimate covered Premier League prize money only. Add in the European places Manchester City took, and the Swans’ figure almost triples.

Swansea City could be owed more than £26 million by Manchester City if City’s appeal fails, once lost European prize money is counted, according to data specialists at betting site OLBG.

The Swans were already estimated to be in line for more than £9m in Premier League prize money in OLBG’s first estimate last month.

Its new analysis adds a further £17,236,658 in European earnings it says Swansea missed out on, taking their total to £26,344,044.

OLBG has added the European money because rival clubs could also take legal action over those losses, on top of the Premier League impact.

Across the league, the site now puts the bill at more than £1.2 billion.

That is more than eight times OLBG’s figure for Cardiff City, whose £3,154,601 comes entirely from the Premier League.

Man City found guilty on 114 charges, and an appeal lodged

The Premier League published the independent commission’s findings on 29 September, with City found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges.

Manchester City lodged an appeal on 1 October, saying the commission’s opinion “contains clear material errors”. OLBG says the club could face heavy penalties, and legal action from rivals, if the appeal fails.

How City’s Champions League places cost the Swans £17.2m

OLBG took City out of every Premier League table since 2011/12, then reallocated each summer’s European places using the rules in force at the time.

It valued each place at what the lowest-earning English club in that competition received from UEFA that season, converted into pounds.

A club’s loss is the value of the place it would have had, minus the value of the one it actually got. By that measure, OLBG puts the Swans’ share at £17,236,658.

Swansea are one of 14 clubs the site says lost European money, and sit 11th on that list, just behind Newcastle United on £18.7m.

OLBG admits some of its figures rest on judgement calls. It assumes clubs moving into a qualifying-round place would have reached the group stage, and its 2025/26 numbers are a projection because UEFA has not yet published that season’s payments.

Tottenham top a £1.2bn bill

The full breakdown is £527.9m in Premier League merit payments and £678.5m in lost European money.

Tottenham Hotspur top the table at £155.2m, ahead of Arsenal on £128.9m and Leicester City on £128.5m.

Swansea’s £26.3m puts them 15th of the 38 clubs listed, ahead of Bournemouth, Burnley and Fulham.

OLBG calls the figures an estimate, and no ruling has been made that any club is owed anything.

Swans top of the Championship before Millwall

On the pitch, the Swans are top of the Championship after coming from behind to beat Norwich on Saturday.

They go to Millwall on Tuesday night looking to stay there.
