Llanelli Town AFC have lost their manager and their general manager on the same night, with Terry Boyle and Colin Staples both resigning with immediate effect.

The club confirmed the double departure in a statement on Sunday evening, with the Reds bottom of the Novira Cymru South and still without a league win this season.

Chairman Wayne Stephens and club secretary Peter Tiffin are now in talks over what the club calls “the next steps and future direction of the club”.

Those talks will lead to further meetings, including consultations with the full board, and the club says further updates will follow “in due course”.

In the meantime, all fixtures and club events this week go ahead as planned, including Friday’s home game against Afan Lido at Stebonheath Park.

Boyle leaves with the Reds bottom of the Cymru South

Boyle took charge when he replaced Lee John in January, first as interim manager and later on a permanent basis.

The Ammanford-born former Wales defender played for Crystal Palace, Newport County, Cardiff City and Swansea City, and managed the Wales semi-professional side for a decade. Llanelli was his first club job in charge since Neath in 2011.

He could not keep the Reds in the Cymru Premier, and they finished bottom of the top flight in May, a year after winning the Cymru South title.

The return to the second tier has been no easier. Llanelli have two draws and nine defeats from 11 league games, according to Clwb Pêl-droed, and sit six points behind Llantwit Major.

In September the board admitted results “must improve quickly” after eight games without a win, and asked supporters to keep their criticism respectful.

Boyle’s last game in charge was a 6-0 Welsh Cup defeat at Caerau Ely.

The club’s statement credits Boyle with giving “a number of our development players” their senior debuts this season.

“His commitment to giving young players a pathway into senior football will undoubtedly prove to be a valuable asset as the club continues to build and develop its on field future,” it said.

Staples credited with Llanelli Town’s FAW-aligned strategy

Staples, the former Swansea City Ladies head coach, was appointed general manager in July 2025, ahead of the club’s first Cymru Premier season.

The club says he helped set up a club strategy aligned with the Football Association of Wales’ future development plans.

It singled out last year’s club development evening, which it said “brought together a number of key individuals and stakeholders to discuss the future direction and ambitions of Llanelli Town AFC”.

The club thanked both men for their “hard work, dedication and commitment” on and off the pitch, and wished them every success “whether within football or beyond”.

After Afan Lido, Llanelli travel to Pontypridd United on Friday 30 October.
