Bridgend‘s town centre Post Office has a new home — inside the Rhiw Shopping Centre.
The Dunraven Place branch at 4-5 Wyndham Street closed on Tuesday 30 June, as extensive demolition and building work begins to redevelop the surrounding area.
A renamed Bridgend Post Office opened the same day in a temporary unit at the Rhiw, at 20-22 Caroline Street — with a ribbon-cutting on Friday marking the official opening.
The new branch sits close to the shopping centre’s main Caroline Street entrance, next to Boots, with alternative access from Nolton Street and The Rhiw. Access at the entrance is level.

Opening hours are unchanged: 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday.

The move lands the Post Office inside the shopping centre Bridgend Council bought for £5.37m in March, when it stepped in over fears for the arcade’s future — and it was the council that found the branch its temporary home.
Council leader Cllr John Spanswick, who attended the opening alongside deputy mayor Cllr Elaine Winstanley, said the Post Office provided “an essential service for residents, businesses and visitors”.
“Council officers worked closely with the Post Office and its operators to identify suitable temporary premises as quickly as possible, helping to ensure there was no significant disruption to these vital services,” he said.
The branch continues to be run by RF Retail, which has operated it since November 2025.
Postmaster Richard Fleetwood said he was “very grateful” to the council for its support, “which enabled the Post Office to quickly relocate to the new interim location, to continue to provide vital services to this community”.
The branch still offers full travel money services, with more than 22 currencies in store, along with travel insurance and digital passports.
RF Retail says personal and business customers of more than 30 banks — including the recently closed Halifax, Barclays and Santander branches — can deposit and withdraw cash free of charge at the counter with a debit card and PIN.
Additional parcel services, including Evri and DPD, are being explored for the branch.
Karl Haddon, Post Office retail change lead, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to this area of Bridgend, which is why we opened a temporary branch whilst we continue to look for a permanent solution.”
A permanent town centre home for the branch is still being sought, with long-term plans yet to be confirmed.
