Building fire closes busy Swansea city centre street

Seven fire appliances from afar away as Carmarthen were at the scene of a building fire in Swansea city centre that closed the main Kingsway route.

The fire, which has now been extinguished saw Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swansea West, Morriston, Port Talbot, Swansea Central, Swansea West, Llanelli and Carmarthen Fire Stations surrounding an office development under construction.

Smoke was seen to be rising from the fourth floor of the building early this morning (31 January).

The Kingsway was closed to traffic in both directions by Police while fire crews tackled the incident.

Traffic was heavy throughout the city centre as a result of the closure.

The Kingsway was reopened at around 10.15am.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have said the fire has been extinguished, although the incident is ongoing. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
