FFOS LAS RACECOURSE: Preview and tips for Sunday’s eight‑race meeting

The Flat is back at Ffos Las on Sunday, with eight races on the card at the Carmarthenshire track.

The action gets under way at 1.19pm with a six-furlong handicap and runs through to the closing ten-furlong handicap at 5.19pm, with soft ground expected to play its part across the afternoon.

1.19 – Six-furlong handicap

Sub Thirteen has been very consistent in recent starts, including when third for the second time in a row at Bath last time, and dropping back down in class makes him a threat.

Selection though goes to Macarone, who completed a double when scoring by a neck at Bath last time and, at only 1lb higher, has a chance to complete the hat-trick.

Blue Point Express was beaten three and a quarter lengths at Chepstow last time and, suited by the soft ground and on the basement mark, can remain competitive.

1.49 – Five-furlong nursery

Knock Three Times is on a nice mark but is unproven on testing ground like this, while Naval Cop can handle it nicely and is on a handy mark now for the in-form Andrew Balding stable.

Rhodes Runner won on heavy at Chepstow last time and could get into the mix again but is much higher in the handicap now.

2.24 – Five-furlong handicap

Call Time returned to form when scoring over six furlongs here last time and, with conditions to suit and effective over this shorter trip, can follow up despite a 5lb rise.

Some Nightmare was narrowly denied the opportunity to end a lengthy losing streak at Bath last time and, still on the same mark, can go well again in the search for that elusive success.

Outer Edge was better than the bare result when fourth at Bath last time, beaten only three quarters of a length, and can remain competitive from just 1lb higher.

2.59 – Two-mile handicap

Two miles on a softer surface could stretch the stamina of some, and it may pay to side with Sir Mark Prescott’s Campeona. She’s a distance winner and finished third in a better race at Kempton last time out when possibly left with too much to do.

If she fails to make the most of the drop in grade, then four-time hurdle winner and Flat handicap debutant No Ordinary Joe could take advantage upped in trip, followed by Chester winner Carthusian.

3.34 – Seven-furlong novice stakes

Ghost Raider caught the eye when a length second on his Kempton debut, but he failed to build on that as hoped when only fourth at York.

He might find this company and small field more to his liking, but preference is for the Andrew Balding-trained Silent Force. A son of No Nay Never, he finished a decent third on his Newbury debut despite being hampered twice, and is expected to have learned from the experience.

Time Glory is the suggestion for third.

4.09 – One-mile handicap

Prince Ali returned to form when switched back to turf and scoring by three lengths at Chepstow last time and, despite a 6lb rise for that success, can go well again back up in trip.

Homeland won here over ten furlongs three starts ago and, having been beaten six lengths when fifth in a higher grade last time, can go well again back down in class from the same mark.

Rosemary’s Rose was below form when fading late over shorter at Chepstow last time but had been consistent previously and can bounce back returned to a mile.

4.44 – One-mile handicap

Arvana Belle returned to form when beaten only a head here last time and, with Saffie Osborne booked, can go one better and end her lengthy losing streak.

Kaleidoscope Eyes returned to form when runner-up at Chepstow last time and, back up in trip to a mile, can remain competitive if building on that effort back at her favoured track.

King Of The Dance ended a lengthy losing run when scoring by a short head here last time and can go well again with David Probert maintaining his place in the saddle.

5.19 – Ten-furlong handicap

Wellwhatshappenin was narrowly denied when beaten a short head here last time and, back up in trip with a first-time tongue tie having worked well, can go one better dropped another 1lb.

Georg Zhukov weakened late when fourth here last time but, with the return to ten furlongs likely to suit and on a fair mark, can bounce back.

Pride Eye has been generally consistent and, with his mark easing again, can go well returned to turf.
