Families in Wales will be able to fly direct to Lapland to meet Santa this December, with three tour operators running trips from Cardiff Airport.
Two day trips and a three-night break are flying to Swedish and Finnish Lapland in the run-up to Christmas, with a Northern Lights trip following in January, the airport says.
Every Lapland trip flying from Cardiff this winter
Transun’s Let It Snow! Santa Daybreak flies to Pajala in Swedish Lapland on 22 December, from £599 per adult. The day includes a private meeting with Santa, reindeer and husky experiences, and time to explore the snow.
TUI’s Search for Santa day trip flies to Kittilä in Finland on 11 December, from £750 per person. It includes a search for Santa, a visit to SnowVillage, reindeer and husky rides, a mini snowmobile ride and a private meeting with Santa.
Santa’s Lapland is also flying on 11 December, with a three-night trip to Ivalo in Finland. The airport’s announcement does not give a price.
After Christmas, Transun has a four-night Northern Lights trip from 17 to 21 January 2027, flying to Enontekiö in Finnish Lapland.
What you’ll pay, and what the airport isn’t saying
TUI’s price is per person and Transun’s is per adult. The airport has not said what children pay on any of the trips.
The trips are sold by the tour operators, so the full prices and what’s included are on their own websites.
No trek to another airport this Christmas
Flying from Cardiff saves families in Wales and the South West a trip to another UK airport, the airport says.
“Having these trips depart directly from Cardiff means families and travellers from across Wales and the South West can start their Lapland adventure from their local international airport,” a spokesperson for Cardiff Airport said.
“Whether it’s meeting Santa, exploring the snowy wilderness or searching for the Northern Lights, there are some incredible experiences available this winter.”
The Lapland flights arrive in a winter when Cardiff has lost some of its regular services, after Ryanair trimmed its Dublin and Alicante flights and Vueling pulled its Spanish routes for the season.
