South Wales Police say 44-year-old Dan Dang was discovered during a search warrant at an address on Townhill Road, Mayhill, on 21 December 2023.

Dang, originally from Vietnam, had been living in the UK illegally since 2015, having paid £35,000 to those who facilitated his journey. He originally intended to work in restaurants to support his family back home.

Dang claimed in court he originally thought the cannabis was medicine, however when he realised what it was, threats had been made to kill his family in Vietnam.

South Wales Police say 166 cannabis plants were discovered during the warrant at the Mayhill address, with an estimated street value of up to £72,800.

Over £9,500 in cash was also seized, alongside bank cards, three mobile phones and two gold bars.

Dang was sentenced to eight months in prison at Swansea Crown Court after pleading guilty to the charges. He is now due to be deported.
