Queer Surf Club Swansea has been awarded £1,000 to help create a safe, inclusive community for LGBTQ+ surfers to meet and surf together.

The grant from Coastal Housing Group is part of their Horizon Fund which aims to help local community projects deliver change in their local area.

Queer Surf Club Swansea say the funds will help provide the equipment and expertise needed for all interested people in the Swansea area to learn to surf.

They say that those involved in the club will benefit from the physical and mental wellbeing that can be gained from surfing and spending time in the ocean.

As well as promoting a sense of community and belonging, the Queer Surf Club will also encourage members to work together to protect the coastal environment through regular beach cleans.

The £1,000 from Coastal Housing has been made through the Crowdfunding platform Spacehive, where Queer Surf Club Swansea is aiming to raise almost £5,000 for the initiative.
