Llanelli-born MP for Swindon South, Robert Buckland has become the first man to be knighted by King Charles III since he became the country’s monarch.

Sir Robert was given the title Knight Commander of the British Empire at a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (16 November)

He was given the title Sir at the start of the year, however the ceremony was delayed due to Queen Elizabeth II’s ill health and subsequent death.

Sir Robert said: “I’m deeply honoured to have received my knighthood from his Majesty the King.

“I feel that receiving this award is, I hope, a reflection of the hard work I have put in and continue to put in for my constituents in South Swindon, as a cabinet member and Lord Chancellor most notably, and as continuing service as a member of Parliament.

“It’s a great honour to be recognised in this way and I feel very proud.”

The Welsh-speaking former Justice Secretary was named as interim Welsh Secretary in July following the resignation of a number of cabinet members that lead to Boris Johnson stepping down as Prime Minister.

Sir Robert continued in that role under Liz Truss’ short premiership, however he was replaced by David TC Davies when Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister at the end of October.
