Network Rail launched plans in 2023 for a new footbridge and two new lift towers either side of the railway tracks at the station.
The new footbridge and stairs are already open for passengers, with the lifts expected to be open soon.
After delays, the old footbridge will be demolished and work is scheduled to happen on Saturday, January, 11 and Sunday, January, 12.
A letter sent to residents from Network Rail Wales and Borders, said:
“The demolition of the old footbridge will take place the night of Saturday, January, 11 into the early hours of Sunday January, 12, when trains aren’t running.
“Please note that these dates may change, and we have a contingency shift for the following Saturday night (January, 18).
“To keep the public safe during the arrival and set up of the crane and delivery of the bridge, we’ll be closing parts of the Great Western Crescent around Llanelli station from noon Saturday to 4pm Sunday.
“The station car park will remain open, however we ask that cars are not parked on the right-hand side of the station entrance on Great Western Crescent from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday afternoon.
“The station will remain open to passengers during this work. The nature of our work often means some noise is unavoidable. We know we’re working near your home and will try to minimise this as much as possible, but we are sorry for any disturbance.”
The revamp plans for the station were approved by Carmarthenshire Council and has been ongoing with contractor Amco Giffen since the end of 2023. As part of a Wales-wide scheme with the Department for Transport and Transport for Wales it looks to improve accessibility at stations on Wales and Borders.
