57-year-old Andrew Philpin, from Parc Wern, Skewen, stole in excess of £300,000 from the YMCA where he worked, leaving the charity at risk of bankruptcy. The YMCA has also lost its charitable status and dozens of staff could be made redundant.

Across a period of six years, he stole £310,000 from the charity.

Andrew Philpin was sentenced to five years in prison for fraud. A proceeds of crime investigation will now be launched to recover the money stolen from the charity.

Detective Constable Annie Rees from South Wales Police said: “This was a long term-fraud which has had devastating consequences on not just a local charity, but also those employed by the charity and those who rely on its services.

“Andrew Philpin abused his position of trust within the charity, and will now rightfully serve a prison sentence.”
