As the year draws to a close, it’s only natural to start thinking about what we would like to achieve in the year ahead. This time around, what if you set yourself a more realistic, healthy and enjoyable goal that could help raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance at the same time?
For many of us, this future planning goes hand in hand with making (and more often than not breaking) New Year’s resolutions. Raising money for the Air Ambulance can give a sense of accomplishment and empowerment whilst will also help the Charity continue to serve the people of Wales and save lives.
The Wales Air Ambulance has a number of events coming up in 2024 that you can take part in. Kicking off the New Year, there is the annual Air Miles virtual walking, jogging or running event in which, you complete 25, 50 or 100 miles during the month.
It’s a great stepping stone if you want to go on to take part in one of the many running events, that are taking place throughout the year, where you can sign up for a free charity space by fundraising for the Charity. Some of these events include Cardiff Half Marathon, Chester Marathon and Ironman. Spaces are on a first come, first serve basis, so you need to sign up quick.

There are also several non-running challenges to sign up to. This year, there are plans for a cycling challenge in addition to the Charity’s annual Walk Wales event.
For the foodies amongst you, why not take part in the Charity’s first Coffee and Cake event in March? Not forgetting the Castles in the Sky trail taking place between July to September, which will see more than 20 castle sculptures dotted around Swansea city centre and neighbouring areas. So, get your walking boots on and take a stroll to see if you can find them all.
There are further events waiting in the wings, so keep your eyes peeled for updates on the Wales Air Ambulance website and social media pages.
If you’re still not sure about the events mentioned above, you could still help to support the all-Wales Charity by holding your own events or taking part in your own challenges. The Charity would love to hear all about your challenges and perhaps even help to promote it.
The Charity needs to raise £11.2 million every year to provide vital 24/7 emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries. It is the only air ambulance charity based in and dedicated to Wales.

Tracey Ann Breese, Wales Air Ambulance Events and Partnership Fundraiser, said:
“Why not set yourself a New Year’s resolution and challenge yourself to one of the many events we have available to us through our charity partners or our own organised events.
“It is always good to have a goal to focus on and even if you are not a runner, there is enough time to build up your running distance and time if you start early. Our virtual Air Miles event is a great way to get back into fitness after Christmas and beat off those January blues.
“If running is not for you, you can still get involved in one of our other events including our brand-new mass participation event Coffee and Cake in March, or you can organise your own event in which the Charity can help to offer support and publicity.
“Not only will you achieve a personal goal, but you will be helping to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance at the same time. Through your fundraising it will help keep our helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road throughout Wales 24 hours a day. What a great way to kickstart 2024 by supporting our Charity and achieving a personal goal.”
