33-year-old Botha has been a key member of the front-row since arriving in South Wales from the Cheetah’s in 2016.
Having quickly adapted to the demands of top-flight European rugby, the South African’s ability to compete at the highest level, including in the highly competitive BKT URC and EPCR Competitions, has been critical for the Ospreys in recent seasons.
A product of Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch, the powerhouse prop has become a fixture in the Ospreys’ formidable front row and has made a significant impact since his arrival. His destructive scrummaging prowess has turned him into a fan favourite at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Botha made his 100th appearance for the team against Edinburgh last season and is now at 113 as one of the veteran players in the side.
Botha has been a stat standout this year in the EPCR Challenge Cup, the South African being one of the competition leaders in attacking rucks hit this season.
Head Coach, Toby Booth commenting on Botha’s contract renewal said:
“Tom has been an integral part of our set-up here at the Ospreys. His set piece has been exemplary which is obviously a defining factor of our identity.
“In the tight, you need someone of Tom’s calibre, and his destructive scrummaging ability has been vital for us. We are delighted that he sees his future with us and we look forward to what’s to come.”
Botha, equally excited about his new deal, expressed his happiness and commitment to the team:
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey with the Ospreys. It’s a great club with a fantastic culture and ambitious players.
“The support from the fans has been amazing, and I’m eager to repay that faith with strong performances on the field.”
With a series of solid performances behind him and a new contract in hand, both the Ospreys and Botha will be keen to see what lies ahead with both European and domestic challenges lying ahead this season.
