Police name father and 3-year-old son who died in West Cross house fire

South Wales Police have named a 51-year-old man and his 3-year-old son who tragically died following a house fire in West Cross on Saturday (1 July).

3-year-old Muhammed Esmael tragically died at the scene of the fire at the family home at Gonhill in West Cross.

Muhammed’s father, 51-year-old Naemat Lawa Esmael is reported to have passed away this morning after having been initially taken to Morriston Hospital with serious injuries.

A 13-year-old girl and a 39-year-old woman were treated for smoke inhalation.

Detective Inspector Carl Price from South Wales Police said: “Our thoughts remain with the family, friends and the local community following this tragic incident. We are working alongside the fire service to establish the cause of the fire.

“We wish to acknowledge the efforts of the local community for the support being offered and provided to the family following this tragic incident.”

A GoFundMe set up after the fire has raised over £15,000 for the family.

Leader of Swansea Council, Rob Stewart said: “Our thoughts, condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends at this very difficult time.

“The police and emergency services are currently undertaking their duties following the fire, and our (council) services will assist and support those affected by the fire

“The community has already responded with kindness and support and a number of community initiatives have been set.”
