39 year-old Robert Jenkins from Swansea has been sentenced at Merthyr Crown Court after an elderly man was locked up in their own home in a terrifying home invasion burglary.

Jenkins proceeded to steal the elderly man’s car, which he later crashed.

The prolific Swansea burglar has had an additional 30 months added to a sentence he was already serving for another burglary.

Detective Inspector Gareth Jones from South Wales Police said: “This was an upsetting ordeal for the victim, and assistance from key witnesses have played a vital role in bringing Jenkins to justice today.

“Thank you to those key witnesses for all their help, and I’d also like to commend the excellent work of the police investigation. Jenkins’ unlawful actions proved to be unsuccessful and he is now seeing that crime really doesn’t pay.”
