Eom Ji-sung marked his Asian Games with a first-half hat-trick as South Korea’s Under-23s cruised to a 4-1 win over Qatar in Japan.
The Swansea City winger, 24, was left out of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Burnley for the tournament, and made the most of it in Nagoya.
His three first-half goals kick-started the defending champions’ campaign in style, the winger a class apart as South Korea opened with victory.
Eom is eligible for the Under-23 side as one of the permitted over-age selections, having already been capped at senior level for his country.
The treble caps a bright start to the season for the winger, who had scored twice and added two assists across Swansea’s opening six league games before linking up with the squad.
He was at his best in the win over Watford that took the Swans top earlier this month, sweeping in the opener and then creating the second with a defence-splitting through ball.
South Korea are back in action against Saudi Arabia on Monday 22 September (11am BST).
