BillyChip, is a unique and secure form of donation, which provides an opportunity for Swansea shoppers to contribute to the welfare of homeless individuals without concerns about the misuse of funds. This initiative marks a collaborative effort by local businesses to address homelessness in a tangible and meaningful way.
Partnering with the BillyChip programme are Jack’s Kitchen, The Storyteller, Socialdice, Coffi Glas, Swansea Community Fridge (Goleudy), and Matt’s Café. Swansea shoppers can simply pop into any of those venues to purchase a BillyChip, which they can then gift to a homeless person. The chip can then be exchanged for food or drink at any of the listed venues.
Head of Operations at Swansea BID, Andrew Douglas commenting on the initiative said:
“Swansea has always been a community that cares deeply about its residents. The BillyChip initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering a supportive and compassionate environment in the centre of Swansea. By empowering shoppers to make a tangible impact, we are collectively working towards supporting our city’s most vulnerable.
“It is fantastic that so many BID businesses have already committed to creating a positive impact on the lives of those in need, and we look forward to continuing our work with BillyChip in 2024, encouraging even more venues to join the initiative.”
Meg Abernethy-Hope, Director of Operations and Co-Founder at BillyChip, emphasised the significance of community involvement, saying:
“The collaboration with Swansea businesses is a testament to the power of local initiatives. We believe in the potential of communities to bring about positive change. The BillyChip not only ensures a secure and transparent donation process but also promotes a sense of dignity and respect for the homeless individuals we aim to support.
“Working with Swansea BID has been fantastic with the initial roll-out across Swansea City Centre businesses and we’re looking forward to building on this too in 2024.”
