Cosy Club opens on the ground floor of Swansea’s Exchange Buildings on Monday 9 November, putting one of the city’s best-known landmarks back to use.
The Exchange Buildings were designed by Swansea architect Charles T Ruthen in 1913. The Grade II listed landmark stands on Adelaide Street in the Maritime Quarter.
The restaurant and bar chain calls it one of Swansea’s most recognisable historic landmarks. It says the building has been restored “while retaining many of the features that make it such an important part of the city’s story”.
Swansea is the chain’s third venue in Wales, after Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Central. The company says it is the 37th Cosy Club in the group.
Terrazzo, bare brick and made-to-measure interiors inside the 1913 Exchange Buildings
The terrazzo floor uncovered during the fit-out was found under decades of coverings and has now been restored. The original brickwork has been stripped back to bring “warmth and texture” back into the rooms, the company says.
The design team took its cue from 20th century design, working with manufacturers, artists and craftspeople on carpets, wallpapers, lighting and one-off pieces made for the venue.
The walls carry patterned fabrics by Anna Hayman and artwork by Isobel Harvey, with disco balls, dramatic lighting and a big central bar.

Cosy Club’s move into the building was announced in August. Swansea.com, which owns the building, plans aparthotel rooms on the upper floors.
The opening is timed for the run-up to Christmas, with bookings already being taken for parties, festive get-togethers and celebration meals, the chain says.
Lucy Knowles, Cosy Club’s managing director, said the party season was the point: “Opening in Swansea as the festive season gets underway feels particularly exciting. We know this time of year is all about bringing people together, whether that’s for Christmas parties, family celebrations, work gatherings or simply catching up with friends, and we’ve created a Cosy Club that’s made for those occasions.”
Brioche French toast to Spiced Clementine Margaritas: what’s on the Swansea menu
The menu runs all day, from breakfast and brunch through to dinner, with gluten-free and vegan options.
Brunch includes brioche French toast topped with caramelised banana, blueberries and whipped salted caramel butter. There are also crispy chilli eggs and avocado on sourdough with lemon-whipped ricotta, chilli oil and hot honey.
Later in the day there’s slow-roasted pork belly, king prawn and salmon linguine, and a tamarind-glazed shredded duck salad.
Cocktails include a Mango Colada, a Lychee Martini and a Spiced Clementine Margarita.
Beaujolais Day and a welcome from the Morgans Hotel
The doors open ten days before Beaujolais Day on Thursday 19 November. That was the first date the chain put on sale in October, with a £49.95 three-course menu that includes a glass of Beaujolais Nouveau.
Knowles said the venue had been welcomed by its neighbours at the Morgans Hotel: “We’ve already received such a positive welcome from people in the city, including our neighbours at Morgans Hotel, which has been wonderful. There’s a real sense of pride in this part of Swansea and we’re delighted to be joining a community of businesses that are helping make the area such a vibrant destination.”
She added: “From festive feasting and sparkling cocktails to New Year celebrations and everything in between, we can’t wait to welcome Swansea through the doors and play our part in making this Christmas season one to remember.”
Cosy Club is owned by Loungers, which also runs the Lounge cafe-bars and Brightside roadside restaurants.
