Lucy Evans, who works at the CCH Abacare Swansea branch, was selected from over 15,000 colleagues nationwide in recognition of her outstanding dedication, compassion and commitment to supporting people in their own homes.
Now 12 years into her career with CCH Group, Lucy moved into care from retail and quickly discovered she had found her calling. She is widely praised by clients and their families for her warmth, patience and calming presence, particularly when supporting people living with dementia, anxiety or behavioural challenges.
Lucy is known for taking the time to understand what truly matters to each person she supports, building strong, trusting relationships that sit at the heart of high-quality home care.
Her manager, Paula Clarke, said Lucy consistently goes above and beyond in everything she does.
“Nothing is ever too much trouble for Lucy. She leads by example, completes every task to an exceptionally high standard and brings genuine kindness into every home she visits.
“She also supports and mentors new starters, passing on the values and standards she lives by every day.”
Judges were particularly moved by one incident involving an elderly client who cancelled her care visit after flooding in her home. Lucy attended anyway, found the property ankle-deep in water, bought cleaning supplies herself and stayed to clear the flood and make sure the client was safe, comfortable and reassured.
Wendy McCall, Managing Director of Homecare at CCH Group, said Lucy’s story highlights the vital role home care plays in communities across the UK.
“Home care does not always get the recognition it deserves, but Lucy’s story shows just how skilled, compassionate and important this work is. Her professionalism, kindness and instinct to act without hesitation are exactly why care at home matters so much, and why this award is so well deserved.”
For Lucy, the recognition is about the people and community she supports every day.
“To be recognised for the work I do in my local area means such a lot. I love being out in the community helping people, and I fully intend to stay in care because I genuinely love what I do.”
She also praised her colleagues and manager, describing CCH Group as a supportive and positive place to work, and encouraged others to consider a career in care.
“It is incredibly rewarding. You become part of people’s lives and part of your community, and that means everything.”
The award forms part of CCH Group’s annual Extraordinary Care Awards, celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to deliver outstanding care, often away from the spotlight.
