Live at the Apollo regular Tom Stade is bringing his new show to Swansea‘s own comedy club next month, and he’s promising to tear up the rulebook.
The Canadian comic plays the Problematic Pub Comedy Club on the Strand on Wednesday 21 October with Tom Stade Rules, his 16th stand-up hour.
It arrives straight from this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe, where his promoters say the run sold out and picked up five-star reviews.
Unspoken codes, marriage and growing old disgracefully
The show sets the nonsense of modern life against the old world, according to the tour billing, taking in unspoken social codes, cultural quirks, identity, marriage, family life and “growing old disgracefully”.
Stade is known for pulling the crowd into the act, and the venue suits it. The club bills itself as the second purpose-built comedy club in Wales, with seats close to the stage.
Shows there are for over-18s only.
From Live at the Apollo to entertaining troops in Afghanistan
Stade arrived in the UK from Canada in 2001 and made it his home, and he has toured a brand-new show every year since 2011.
He has played Live at the Apollo twice and appeared on The John Bishop Show, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Mock the Week.
He also co-wrote and co-starred in Frankie Boyle’s Channel 4 series Tramadol Nights.
Away from the TV studios, he has performed for British troops in the Falklands, and his promoters say he came under fire while entertaining troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Scotsman once said he was “so cool, he could well be the answer to global warming”, while the Daily Record went further: “if comedy is the new rock ‘n’ roll, then Tom Stade is Keith Richards”.
Swansea first, then Cardiff in November
Swansea is the eighth night of a tour of more than 60 dates that began in Stockton on 27 September and runs until May 2027.
He plays Cardiff’s Glee Club two weeks later, on Wednesday 4 November, where tickets are £28.50.
It’s a busy autumn for comedy in the city. Harry Enfield brings his first solo tour to Swansea Building Society Arena on 12 October.
