In a tepid end of season encounter, the Swans would be the stronger of the two sides but would be toothless in attack. Williams’ side would have to wait for the misfortune of midfielder Andy Rinomhota guiding Liam Walsh’s corner into his own net in the 74th minute to be gifted the three points.
Liam Cullen would have the best of the chances early on shooting straight at Swedish goalkeeper Viktor Johansen, but openings would be far-and-far between as the Swans would lack a cutting edge and Rotherham would fail to muster a single shot on target.
The Swans are now all but mathematically safe, but after back-to-back victories for only the third time this season, Williams wants his side to remain competitive for their remaining fixtures.

“It wasn’t thrilling, but I don’t think anyone could question whether the players approached the game with the correct mentality,” said Williams in his post-match press conference.
“I don’t think anyone could question the work rate and the aggression and intensity of the performance.
“We attacked the box so much that it would have been much more fun if we scored more, converted more chances and came away with a much different feeling.
“But for me I’m happy with the base, I’m happy with the energy and intensity and how much we controlled the game.
“I think we had 12 shots inside the box. It would be lovely to score more goals when you’re that dominant. You feel happier with everything then.
“I need to find more solutions for the team to help them be more creative and get the balance right.
“Sometimes though you try so hard to be creative that you leave the back door open, and you concede.
“The players have still got to show [over the remaining three games] that they are willing to fight hard and run for everything and not try and take it easy.
“I need to see their character because whatever their circumstances they will need to apply themselves. I need to know when things get complicated, I have the right characters.
“It’s going to be a challenge for me to get the right personnel to thrive [in the summer]. If we can then bring all that together then we are going to do alright.”
