Williams looking for greater focus after Leicester defeat
Swansea City head coach Luke Williams has called for his side to show greater concentration levels after errors proved to be the catalyst of the 3-1 loss against league leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last night.
The Swans challenge against a squad full of Premier League experienced players was always going to be difficult. The task, however, was made harder after Keiron Dewsbury-Hall’s tenth league goal of the season gave the Foxes an early lead after the Swans high line was caught by quick movement.
The Swans would ride their luck with the hosts regularly exploiting Williams’ side’s backline, but they would also have chances of their own. Jerry Yates, Harry Darling and Jamie Paterson coming close, but it would just be a goal in the contest at the break.
Former Arsenal trainee Stephy Mavididi converted a penalty midway through the second-half for the home side after Nathan Wood was adjudged to have brought down Patson Daka to all but seal the win, before substitute Yunus Akgun punished indecision to fire in a third minutes later to add gloss to the scoreline.
Joe Allen scored his first of the season with the last action of the game, tapping home a rebound after a goalmouth scramble from close range. It would, however, be another tough night for the Swans who would be well beaten despite an improved showing.
“We were in the game for long spells, but we have to be more clinical,” said Williams.
“I want us to try and be brave and play on the front-foot more, but you have to concentrate and take your chances when they come.
“You can’t give gifts. The first one is a quick action from top players. It was disappointing but good from them.
“The second two goals for them we made mistakes that you cannot afford to do.
“The overall performance though was not as disappointing as the scoreline.
“We have to learn to concentrate. The opposition have shown us that they take care with every single pass and also bring a lot of intensity.
“We want to start to build ourselves and compete. If we are going to do that we need to learn from these really tough fixtures.”
