Bridgend schools asked to check their emergency plans following Ammanford incident 

Lindsay Harvey, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Corporate Director for Education, Early Years and Young People, has contacted all headteachers to ask them to check that their emergency lockdown protocols are up to date, and to ensure that teachers, pupils, staff and governors are all aware of what to do in the event of an emergency situation.

Councillor Jon-Paul Blundell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “While serious incidents such as this are thankfully rare, I want to reassure parents and carers that local schools have plans and procedures in place which can be quickly and efficiently implemented if required.

“These cover a wide range of situations and scenarios, and are all united in that they prioritise the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff.

“We will soon be meeting with headteachers to confirm that all relevant plans and procedures are in place. In the meantime, if schools require any additional advice, our emergency planning and corporate health and safety teams remain available to offer further support.”
