Police are investigating after two children were approached by a man as they were walking near their school. The incident happened outside Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Gorseinon.
A van pulled up near the school and spoke to the children, who later reported their concerns to staff. South Wales Police are carrying out increased patrols in the area surrounding the school, and have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said:
“We have received a report of suspicious behaviour wherein an individual has approached schoolchildren in proximity to Penyrheol Comprehensive School, Gorseinon.
“An investigation is currently ongoing. Officers have been conducting increased patrols in the area and have visited the school. Anyone who witnesses such behaviour is encouraged to contact 999 immediately.”
A spokesperson for Penyrheol Comprehensive School said:
“Following an incident on Monday where two of our pupils raised concerns about a conversation they had with an individual outside of the school, it was reported to police.
“We have reminded pupils and families of the importance of safety when walking to and from school at all times of the year including, wherever possible, encouraging pupils to walk in groups together, not talking to strangers, and reporting any concerns to their parent/carer or members of our staff.”
