A statement from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service read:
“At 12.26pm on Thursday, February 27, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Gorseinon, Swansea west and Llanelli fire stations were called to an incident in Gorseinon, Swansea.
“Crews responded to a fire within a two-storey, end-of-terrace domestic property. The fire originated in the property’s utility room on the ground floor. Crews utilised two hose reel jets, one main safety jet, six breathing apparatus sets, three thermal imaging cameras, two positive pressure ventilation fans, two extension ladders and small gear to extinguish the fire.
“The fire is believed to have started accidentally. Significant fire and smoke damage was caused at the property. Crews left the scene at 2.01pm.”
The service issued a reminder on white goods safety, urging people to “never leave appliances unattended”.
“Don’t turn your washing machine or tumble dryer on before you leave the house or go to bed. These appliances contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that get very hot,” it said.
It also urged people not to overload tumble dryers, or put in items that have been used to soak up flammable liquids such as cooking oil.
