Ospreys head coach Mark Jones after his side's 33-22 win against Montauban.

Jones’ side would run in five tries as they carried on their 100% record in Pool 1 with a bonus point victory over the French outfit in the south of France.

It would be a pleasing win for the Welsh region following up their 24-21 win against Connacht with scores from Ross Moriarty, Morgan Morse, Keelan Giles, Efan Daniel and Kieran Hardy, and eight points from the boot of captain Jack Walsh.

Montauban, who are 13th in the French Top 14 league after only winning one game so far this season, responded with tries from hooker Jeremie Maurouard, lock Noa Kanika and full-back Segundo Tuculet.

The French side though would not be able to deal with the Ospreys power and pace as they slumped to fifth place in the Pool, pointless.

“I’m delighted and so pleased for the group,” said Jones post-match.

“It’s a tough place to come, France – a high level of rugby. This team has a lot of quality players in it.

“They have fought particularly hard in the Top 14 even though they are down at the bottom end of it they are still very strong, and we were under no illusion of the size of the task.

“But I thought the way the young team went out there and rose to the challenge [was good].

“I thought the senior guys were a real steel down the team and did an awesome job leading the team in the week and in their performance.

“We talk about starting well and I think that was the foundation of the performance particularly against this very physical forward-orientated side.

“We knew we needed to take their legs away and the accuracy in the first 30 minutes, with the intent to play, was the deciding factor and gave us confidence.”

The Ospreys return to URC league action next Saturday, where they face Munster at Bridgend’s Brewery Field, before a highly-anticipated derby against Scarlets on what will be a Boxing Day full of punches.

“We will enjoy a couple of days off now and come back in Wednesday and get excited about the next challenge.

“We have a very high-quality team [Munster] coming to our own back yard and we have to make sure we have a great week and set ourselves up as well as we have this week.”
