A Llanelli rapist who subjected a young girl to years of sexual abuse has been jailed for 22 years at Swansea Crown Court.
Damien Jones, 40, of Heol Cae Pownd, Cefneithin, denied any wrongdoing — but a jury found him guilty of 16 offences following a trial in May.
He was convicted of:
- Four counts of rape of a girl under 13
- Two counts of sexual touching of a girl under 13
- Three counts of sexual assault with penetration of a girl under 13
- Four counts of inciting a girl under 13 into sexual activity without penetration
- Three counts of inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 into sexual activity with penetration
The offences took place between 2013 and 2021 and related to one victim — a girl who was under 15 at the time.
Sentencing him on Monday (6 July), the court imposed a 23-year special sentence as an offender of particular concern — comprising 22 years in custody followed by a one-year extended licence period.
Jones can apply for release after serving two-thirds of the custodial term — but it will be for the Parole Board to decide whether he is safe to be freed.
He will be a registered sex offender for life, and was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order against his victim.
DC Leanne Morris of Dyfed-Powys Police‘s South Powys CID praised the bravery of the victim in coming forward.
“I would like to take this opportunity to first and foremost commend the bravery shown by the victim in this case,” she said.
“They have shown incredible courage to provide their account to us, as well as appearing in court to give evidence during this trial,” DC Morris added.
She said the force was “incredibly grateful for their strength and fortitude in ensuring that Jones has been brought before the courts and ultimately sentenced”.
Describing Jones as “clearly an incredibly dangerous individual”, she said the sentence “reflects the nature of his depraved crimes” — adding: “Thankfully he is now no longer a danger to the public.”
The investigation team, she said, had shown “excellent professionalism and hard work in obtaining this result”.
