Quentin Tarantino has a new title to add to Oscar-winning director and screenwriter: Vice President of Porthcawl Male Voice Choir.
The Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill filmmaker has accepted an invitation to join the choir’s roll of Vice Presidents, after working with its members during filming in Porthcawl last month.
Choristers appeared as extras in Tangled Up In Blue, the new film from Porthcawl-raised writer-director Jamie Adams, which shot scenes in the town in late June.
Tarantino stars in the film opposite pop icon Kylie Minogue, with filming taking place at Newton Church and The Saltwater Inn on the seafront.
The production drew astonished crowds as two of the most recognisable figures in entertainment appeared on the streets of the seaside town.
Adams, known for his improvisation-driven filmmaking style, grew up in Porthcawl and still lives there — bringing Hollywood quite literally to his home town.
The news of Tarantino’s new role was shared by Chris Elmore, the Labour MP whose Bridgend constituency includes Porthcawl — and himself a Vice President of the choir.
“As a fellow Vice President, I couldn’t be prouder,” Mr Elmore said in a post on social media. “Congratulations to everyone at Porthcawl Male Choir, and a very warm welcome to Quentin!”
Posting after last month’s filming, the MP said it was “another fantastic opportunity to showcase everything that makes Porthcawl so special”, adding: “I can’t wait to see the finished film!”
In Tangled Up In Blue — named after the Bob Dylan song — Tarantino plays Jake Stroud, a talent manager who, in the words of the film’s synopsis, has “spent forty years managing legends” before being forced to confront his own heart.
The cast also includes Jason Isaacs, Allison Williams, Sofia Boutella, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and Craig Roberts, alongside Welsh actors Julian Lewis Jones, Siwan Morris, Craig Russell and Karen Paullada.
It is the second collaboration between Tarantino and Adams, after the director appeared in the Welshman’s film Only What We Carry, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
Adams famously landed his star by simply writing to him — cold-pitching Tarantino a role with a story outline and a letter, and hearing back from his agent two weeks later.
Tarantino has been based in the UK while developing his first West End play, The Popinjay Cavalier, due to open in early 2027 — and it’s not the only production rolling in south Wales this summer.
Tangled Up In Blue, backed by New York-based Visor Entertainment, does not yet have a release date — but Porthcawl’s choristers can already claim the most unexpected Vice President in Welsh choral music.
