The 10 cap Slovenian international follows on from the arrivals of South Korean wide man Eom Ji-sung, Portuguese playmaker Goncalo Franco and Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux.
22-year old Vipotnik signs on a four-year deal following the French club going into administration. Player contracts at Bordeaux were subsequently terminated as part of a cost-saving measure at the club who dropped to the third tier of French football.
A former forward at Portuguese club Maribor, Vipotknik, netted 10 goals in 40 appearances for Bordeaux last season, and has also scored two goals in nine appearances for Slovenia.
Having been selected in manager Matjaz Kek Euro 2024 squad, Vipotknik made an appearance off the bench in the 1-1 draw against Serbia as his side made the knockout stages of the competition.
The striker will bolster head coach Luke Williams’ depleted options in the final third after the departures of Jamal Lowe, Jamie Paterson and Jerry Yates (on loan to Derby County) and will provide competition for Wales international Liam Cullen.
Out of favour Ukrainian Mykola Kuharevich is the other senior frontmen at the club, however, the arrival of Vipotnik is likely to speed up his likely departure with former side Hibernian favourites to clinch a deal.
Swans fans though will have to wait to see their new hit-man in action with Vipotnik not set to travel to Wales until next week where he will link up with his new teammates ahead of the Championship opener against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
Following his departure from Bordeaux, Vipotnik wrote on social media:
“Heartbroken to say goodbye under these circumstances.
“My time at Bordeaux has been nothing short of incredible, thanks to this amazing club and the passionate fans who welcomed me with open arms.
“It’s devastating to see the club facing such challenges, but I believe in the spirit of Bordeaux and I know it will rise again. Until we meet again.”
