Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP, Simon Hart has quit his cabinet role as Welsh Secretary in the latest blow to Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

Mr Hart’s resignation come amidst a swathe of resignations in an attempt to force Boris Johnson to stand down as Prime Minister.

The former Welsh Secretary has been in post since December 2019 after taking over from Alan Cairns who resigned the position shortly before the General Election.

Taking to twitter, Mr Hart said he has “no option left” but to resign. His move came after he was among a group of MPs who had earlier urged the Prime Minister to quit.

Mr Hart said that the Prime Minister would be remembered as someone with “vision, determination and humour” and that there was “never a dull moment” during his time as Welsh Secretary.

“Colleagues have done their upmost in private and public to help you turn the ship around” Mr Hart wrote to the Prime Minister, “but it is with sadness that I feel we have passed the point where this is possible”.
