Swansea City have gone back to the 1990s for their new away kit, reviving the red and blue striped design worn between 1996 and 1998.
The shirt goes on sale at 10am on Friday 7 August, in The Foundry, the club’s rebuilt store at the Swansea.com Stadium, and online.
The original strip was worn in the years Twin Town hit cinemas, and the club has leant all the way into the film’s Swansea mythology: the launch campaign is called Ambition is Critical.
That’s the line famously painted on the railway station sign, a riff on Dylan Thomas that the 1997 film made its own.
The design puts bold red and blue stripes between fine white lines, with a woven jacquard texture, a striped collar and a textured Swan crest. The shorts are blue with red and white striping, the socks red with a blue band.
The club says the shirt is made by Joma from fully recycled polyester as part of its push to cut plastic waste.
To match the era, the launch shoot took place in a classic Swansea pub, dressed in flags and scarves.
Fronting the campaign is Jack Jones, the Swansea-born singer, poet and Trampolene frontman.
The campaign film follows Jones through the city in search of his long-lost 90s shirt, soundtracked by an unreleased Trampolene track, ‘WHAT YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?’.
Adult shirts are £65 and children’s £55, with shorts at £30 and £24, socks from £13, and mini kits at £47.
One warning from the club before Friday: the away kit fits differently from the home shirt and sizing may run small, so anyone between sizes should go a size up.
Personalisation is names-only at launch. Player names and numbers won’t be printed until the season starts, so nobody is caught out by late squad-number changes.
Purchases can be returned or exchanged within 28 days with proof of purchase, though personalised shirts can’t be. Postal returns go through shop@swanseacity.com.
The Foundry opens 10am to 5pm on weekdays and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays, with matchday hours running to kick-off midweek and 5.30pm on Saturday matchdays. It will open Sundays through August only.
The store will also run a quiet hour with the Swansea City Disabled Supporters’ Association from 12pm to 1pm on the first Friday of each month, offering a calmer shopping environment.
It’s the second launch in a fortnight from the club, after the copper-trimmed home kit arrived alongside the reopened store.
That shirt’s circular badge has since prompted a club-wide vote on changing the crest itself.
