In a bid to find stand-out ‘unicorn’ businesses, James offered his 140,000 Instagram followers the lucrative chance to win a £10,000 investment, for whichever comment pitching their small business could “blow him away”.
On a mission to do exactly that, hopeful applicant Lauren Bell from Swansea – founder of eczema-care brand Cosi Care – responded with a bold move.
“We have decided to match [the] £10,000 prize fund and give away, win or lose, £10,000 worth of our Puffer Itch Rollers to our followers, for free” shared Lauren.
Showing their support, Lauren’s pitch garnered 933 likes and 151 comments within 24 hours, with James Watt himself viewing the business’ stories in response.
The thoughtful decision comes as part of Cosi Care’s goal to win investment from James Watt for their small business – the world’s first safe-scratching medical devices to help children and adults soothe excruciatingly itchy and uncomfortable skin, without risk of infection or damage.
Pitching the business to the House of Unicorns, Lauren shared her heartfelt story, “Imagine not being able to comfort your child when they’re in pain? That was the case for my parents. I founded Cosi Care, after watching my little brother, Rhys, battle eczema for over 20 years.”
“He scratched his skin until it bled, resulting in scars, multiple life threatening infections and the deterioration of his mental health.”
“Rhys is not alone. 20% of the population will suffer with chronic itch at some point in life due to conditions like eczema, psoriasis, hives, liver disease, diabetes… the list is endless. We are the only company in the world that creates safe scratching medical devices, offering instant cooling relief without the damage of scratching with dirty fingernails. We invented the viral Scratch Star, with a long list of products to follow. We are changing how the world manages itchy skin, it’s time to outmatch the scratch.”

Not the first time the business has given back, last year Cosi Care launched a free Scratch Survival Guide, providing chronic itch sufferers and their loved ones with a support guide to help manage the physical and mental impact of an extreme skin condition.
Previously Lauren has been successfully selected for a number of prestigious business opportunities, from winning Mayor of London Entrepreneur of the Year in 2019 to most recently becoming a semi-finalist for 43North, an global business accelerator competition in Buffalo.
