SWANSEA: Kids can swim free at Wales National Pool almost every day this summer

Children can swim free at Swansea’s biggest pool for most of the school summer holidays.

Wales National Pool Swansea is running a free hour-long Splash and Play session for under-16s almost every day between now and the end of August, with accompanying adults paying £2.50.

The sessions run from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at the Sketty Lane pool, and places must be booked in advance.

Separate Family Splash sessions run from 10am to noon, Monday to Friday, at £2.50 per person with under-5s free — also bookable in advance.

The only break in the free sessions comes from 29 to 31 July, when the pool hosts a swimming competition.

Bookings are taken on 01792 513 513, through the WNPS website or on the Swansea Bay Sports Park app.

The venue — home to Wales’ only 50m pool — is run in partnership between Swansea Council and Swansea University.

Youngsters at the sessions will find floats and play equipment in the water, according to the pool’s general manager Jeremy Cole.

“If you and the family want to make the most of the summer, the Wales National Pool is a great place to visit,” he said.

“Apart from the 50m pool, we’ve also got a family-friendly 25m pool.”

He said the free sessions were “the perfect opportunity for children who are just getting used to the water to have some fun with their family and friends”.

For adults, a £12 two-week unlimited swimming membership goes on sale between 3 and 17 August.

The pool shop is also running a summer sale — 25% off, or 30% for members, on everything except Swansea University-branded items.

The free sessions come with south Wales in the grip of a prolonged hot spell. They also follow a VAT cut that has made family days out cheaper this summer.
