Welsh domestic football will stay on free-to-air television for another three years after S4C renewed its Sgorio partnership with the Football Association of Wales.
The deal covers the Novira Cymru Premier, the Genero Adran Leagues and both the men’s FAW Welsh Cup and the Bute Energy Welsh Cup — including both finals.
There is plenty of local interest in the new-look league: Ammanford AFC begin their first ever Cymru Premier season this month. They are joined in the expanded 16-club top flight by Port Talbot’s Trefelin BGC.
Llanelli Town are plotting a return to the top division after relegation, while more clubs from across the area compete through the pyramid and in the Welsh Cup — all covered by the renewed deal.
Sgorio will be the official broadcast partner of Welsh domestic football for the 19th consecutive season, showing more than 40 live matches a year alongside highlights, goals and analysis.
Selected Cymru Premier fixtures will be shown live on S4C Clic, BBC iPlayer and Sgorio’s YouTube channel, with English and Welsh commentary available.
Four of the first eight selected fixtures will be played on Friday evenings, with Saturdays the other regular Sgorio match day.
The new season kicks off on 31 July, when Barry Town United host Cambrian United live across all three platforms.
In the women’s game, Sgorio has increased its commitment to ten live matches a season, featuring the best fixtures from the Genero Adran Premier, the Adran Trophy and the Bute Energy Cup.
Alongside the live matches, fans will get comprehensive digital content across Sgorio and S4C Chwaraeon’s social media platforms.
Sue Butler, head of sports at S4C, said the broadcaster was extending its domestic coverage into a third decade. “We are delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with the Football Association of Wales and to extend our coverage of Welsh domestic football into a third decade at an exciting time for fans as the Cymru Premier increases to 16 clubs,” she said.
She added: “S4C has been at the forefront of Welsh domestic football coverage and S4C remains the leading free-to-air broadcaster of Welsh domestic football, bringing supporters live action, highlights and stories from clubs and communities across Wales.”
Jack Sharp, the FAW’s head of domestic leagues, said the renewal would see more fixtures broadcast free to air. “S4C has long been a fantastic champion of Welsh football, and it was important to ensure our relationship continued as we embark on an exciting new adventure in the Novira Cymru Premier,” he said.
He said expanding free-to-air coverage alongside the launch of Cymru Football TV was a key pillar of the FAW’s broadcasting strategy, enhancing the visibility, accessibility and reach of the domestic game.
S4C separately signed a deal in 2023 to broadcast Wales international matches until 2028.
