A mountainside near Talley, north of Llandeilo, is still smoking and smouldering after a wildfire burned across it, with local farmers keeping watch for flare-ups.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said on Monday afternoon it was aware of reports of smoke visible in the Talley area, with firefighters attending the incident and continuing to monitor it.
Smoke may remain visible for some time, the service said, with the situation being “regularly assessed and managed”.
It moved to reassure local communities that crews remain in the area, with resources “deployed as required based on ongoing risk assessments”.
Anyone affected by smoke is asked to keep windows and doors closed where possible.
People should only call 999 if they can see flames, or if there is an immediate risk to life or property, the service said.
An aerial photograph shared by the fire service shows blackened ground stretching across the hilltop, with smoke still rising from pockets of smouldering vegetation.
Local vet Anika Davies said farmers had spent Monday checking the Talley, Tipi Valley and Cwmdu sides of the mountain for any areas re-lighting.
“There are large areas still smoking and smouldering,” she said, with any concerns being reported to the fire brigade.
The fire adds to a punishing week for crews across Carmarthenshire. At Rhandirmwyn, where fire burned on the mountain for six days, the major incident was stood down on Monday afternoon.
Crews have also been dealing with the cliff fire at Morfa Bychan, where a flare-up hit the hills above Pendine on Monday.
The whole of Wales has been in drought since the end of July, after the driest July in 190 years.
The service said it would provide further updates if necessary.
