As the UK continues to melt in the heatwave, researchers at Gala Bingo have ranked ice creams, lollys, pops and bars – basically any frozen treat that can’t be eaten with a spoon.
In top spot comes Magnum, with over a third of all those surveyed choosing the chocolate covered ice cream treat.
The Magnum finds many of its fans amongst pensioners, with almost half of Brits over 65 listing it as their favourite iced dessert (45%).
James Bond actor Roger More famously claimed to have invented the Magnum, however manufacturer Wall’s have since dispelled this as a myth, saying it is no more than “a brilliant story”.

Another Walls favourite, the Cornetto comes in second, with 11% of the vote.
The ice-cream classic is still remembered for it’s 1980s ‘Just One Cornetto’ advert sung to the tune of the Neapolitan classic ‘O Sole Mio’.
Ice-cream van staple, the 99 comes in third.
Due to a sudden increase in demand during the pandemic, the UK faced a shortage of the special half-sized flakes used in the 99 made by chocolate manufacturer Cadbury.
For younger ice lolly fans, a Calippo is a popular snack, with one in 10 people aged 18-24 calling it their favourite (10%).
When it comes to gender, while it came as the nation’s 5th favourite ice lolly, Solero is much preferred by women, with one in 17 listing it as their top choice (6%) compared to just 1 in 25 men (4%).
Commenting on the research, Karina Adrian, Head of Brand Marketing at GalaBingo.com said: “There are not many things more summery than sitting in the sun with a nice ice lolly! It’s great to be able to reveal once and for all, the nation’s favourites.
“But whichever cold treats you prefer, just make sure you find some time to go out and enjoy the summer. With the long, cold winter we’ve had, we definitely deserve it!”
